Clio Mk3 1.4 16V Timing Belt Change. Anyways, I 'guided' my son into buying a Mk3 Clio (2007) for his very first car - with the K4J 1.4 16V engine. The car looks in very good nick, but has no record of a timing belt change ever being done. The mileage is currently 96k. The previous keeper bought it at more than 5 years old, but less than 72k

The crankshaft stops against a tool that screws into the cylinder block on the front near the transmission end, a special tool then fits in the grooves on the ends of the camshafts, these grooves are seen when the bungs are removed from the end of the cylinder head.

Undo the tensioner and disgard. take belt off. change the waterpump while there. then fit in reverse basically, the belt should have 3 lines on and there is a mark on each pulley - its not essential you put it on so these line up but will be a good visual
I myself believe around 60,000 mile intervals, but I wouldn't recommend that to other members. I've recently changed my cambelt, thermo, water pump & crankshaft pulley bolt on my 1.6 8v mk4 Astra, which has covered 78,000 miles. It has already had a belt change at 40,000 miles, changed by a Vauxhall dealer.

When completing the timing belt change the original belt looks in great condition after 84,000 miles and would probably easily have gone another 84,000 miles but the way I see it rubber ages even if the engine is never running for those who use their car primarily as an EV. It isn't worth the risk.
